Deacons and the Old Testament

There are no “deacons” in the Old Testament in the strict, sacramental sense as understood by the Church today. The diaconate emerges explicitly in the New Testament (see Acts 6:1–6) where men are set apart for service (diakonia) within the apostolic community. Deacon Harold opens up today's discussion.
