Defending Maccabees

Why do you use Maccabees, which isn't in the Bible, to defend the doctrine of Purgatory? I am born-again. Why would I want to be Catholic? Should I become a Catholic if aliens are real? and more on today's Called to Communion with Dr. David Anders.
